As an artist, I believe my artwork is born from a personal journey of seeking calm and connection in moments of stress.
I've always been drawn to creative endeavours, spending a lot of my childhood colouring, sketching, writing and painting.

Working with a camera felt like a natural extension of all this. I started with a very basic camera and photographed whatever I could find, which - being a country kid - was predominantly nature.
I used to get up early in the morning, before the rest of my family and wander through the paddocks outside. One particularly fresh morning, I managed a complete fluke. A beautiful photo of the stunning sunrise before me.

Grassy paddocks slowly dipping into the misty valley, punctuated by the occasional silhouette of a horse, and the brilliant colours of the rising sun glinting off the shelters that were studded between fence posts below.

The photo itself turned out so much better than I could have anticipated.
It was the first time I felt like my work truly reflected my experience of that moment. The awe. The beauty. The clarity. The peace.
Growing up, I have had more moments like these with my camera; moments full of wonder, gratitude, and a serene quiet.

As thrilling as experiences like these are, the moment that really drove me to follow this path was actually quite mundane.
I was sitting on the train after a long day at work behind a computer screen. Somehow it wasn't Friday yet, but the week seemed to be stretching forever and I was exhausted. I put on my headphones and found my escape through my photography edits. The next time I looked up was to realise we were almost at my stop.

Has it really been an hour already?
I wondered. As I gathered my things, I realised I felt like I'd spent the last hour meditating. I was no longer exhausted, but rather refreshed, energised even.

I've since had some incredible, once in a lifetime experiences with a camera in my hand - like the time I captured the Aurora Australis. The experience felt like a culmination of everything I've worked towards over the years - the openness, the passion, and the love of nature's fleeting beauty.

Standing beneath that shimmering sky, I didn't just see my first aurora; I felt a deep connection to the world around me and a sense of awe that words don't quite capture. My inner child, the girl who took a sunrise photo that made her pause, was singing and dancing with joy. My photos were no longer a fluke, but rather a carefully crafted work of art.

From the sunrise photo that revealed a world of possibility, to capturing the Aurora Australis dancing over my head, I've spent countless hours studying and developing the technical skills needed to explore the world with my lens, creativity and curiosity.

Through my Moments of Calm collection, I intend to create art that inspires calm, curiosity, and connection, while fostering a deeper sense of belonging to the natural world and igniting positivity and freedom.

The soft, pastel colours of the photographs envelop you in a soothing embrace, reminding you to breathe and let go of stress.
As you observe the ebb and flow of natural elements in the photographs, you’re reminded of the cyclical nature of life. This prompts you to reflect on your own experiences and find solace in the connection and continuity that nature offers.
