It was one of those mornings where the light arrives before you're ready for it.
I stepped outside intending to take one or two photographs. The frost was heavy. The air was cold enough to send most people back indoors. Yet something about the light stopped me. For the next hour I photographed in my garden, across the road, and at the end of my driveway, moving from tree to tree as autumn revealed itself in ways I hadn't expected. The more closely I looked, the more there was to see.
At the time, I thought I was photographing colour, contrast and change. A Japanese maple I'd been watching for weeks. A tree across the road glowing gold in the sunrise. Bare branches silhouetted against a sky that seemed impossibly alive. What I didn't realise was that the experience of making these photographs mirrored the very lesson the collection would later reveal. I wasn't entirely sure I could capture what I was seeing. I had to trust what I had learned, stay curious, and keep going anyway.
Autumn has always been the season that lets me return to my own rhythm. Not because it asks me to stop, but because it reminds me that life is a marathon, not a sprint. It gives me permission to reflect on what I've learned, recognise what I've survived, and consider what I want to carry into the next season. These photographs are for people navigating a similar transition. Not people looking for certainty. People learning to trust themselves without it.

Before the Fall
I had just finished photographing another tree when this one stopped me. The leaves had already turned, but none had fallen. The change was impossible to ignore, yet the tree remained completely whole. Against a striking blue sky, it felt as though the season had arrived all at once.
Before the Fall is the moment you recognise that something is changing and choose how you'll meet it. For the collector, it becomes a reminder that uncertainty does not require resistance. It asks only for your willingness to take the next step.

More than Red
The Japanese maple looked red from a distance. Everyone would have said it was a red tree. Then I moved closer. One leaf revealed greens, yellows, oranges and burgundies, all existing together within the same moment of transition.
More Than Red is an invitation to stop reducing yourself to a single story. It asks what becomes possible when you embrace every colour, rather than trying to choose only one. In a home, it quietly reminds you that complexity is not something to solve. It is something to honour.

Ready Enough
Within a single frame, some branches had already released their leaves while others remained full of colour. Both states existed together. Neither seemed more complete than the other.
Ready Enough is for the person waiting until they feel completely prepared. It offers a gentler truth. You do not have to be ready for all of it. You only have to be ready for the next step. In your space, it becomes a daily reminder that growth rarely arrives all at once.

Let It In
This photograph came from the same maple as More Than Red, but the story changed when I exposed for the sky instead of the leaves. Suddenly the gaps became visible. The light found its way through places I would otherwise have overlooked.
Let It In is about remaining curious even when you become confident. The gaps aren't failures. They're opportunities. In a room, this piece gently challenges certainty and encourages a mindset that remains open to learning.

Still Here
This was the final photograph I made that morning. The leaves were gone. The branches stood exposed against a sky carrying all the warmth and colour the tree no longer held for itself.
Still Here closes the collection because it asks an essential question: what remains when the season has taken everything temporary? The answer is structure, resilience, experience and strength. In a home, it becomes a reminder that even when life strips you back, there is something within you that endures.
