Before the Fall
I almost walked past this tree.
Not because it wasn't beautiful. Because I had already stopped several times that morning and was beginning to wonder if I was chasing the impossible task of capturing what the light was actually doing. The frost was still heavy underfoot, and everywhere I looked there seemed to be another reason to pause.
Then this tree caught my attention.
The leaves hadn't fallen yet. Most had already turned deep reds and rich burgundies, while a handful still held traces of green and gold. Against an extraordinary patch of blue sky, the entire canopy seemed alive with momentum. It was clearly changing, yet nothing had been lost. Not yet.
That was the moment Before the Fall began to reveal itself.
The longer I looked, the more it reminded me of those points in life where change has already arrived, but the outcome remains hidden. The decision hasn't been made. The next chapter hasn't begun. Yet something inside you already knows that the season has shifted.
That's why this piece opens Autumn Elegance. It isn't about endings. It's about recognising the moment where possibility becomes unavoidable.
For the person who lives with this photograph, Before the Fall becomes evidence that you don't need certainty before moving forward. The season can change around you, and you can trust yourself to meet it anyway.
