Fern Lace teaches you something about attention: that the closer you look, the more complex the simple thing becomes, and the more rewarding the looking.
I was searching for a clear line of sight through the dense fern canopy to the sky, somewhere I could backlight a fern frond and reveal the extraordinary intricacy within it. It was more difficult than it sounds. Ferns grow in dense, layered environments, and finding one with a clean path through to light required moving slowly and looking carefully. When I found it, I overexposed the sky deliberately to create the contrast that would reveal the finest detail in the fronds: the individual structures, the slight variations in each, the four long fronds that at first appear identical and on closer inspection are each entirely their own.
The pattern is most visible when you step back. The closer you study it, the more the repetition breaks down into individuality. There is always something new to find in Fern Lace. The eye does not arrive and finish. It keeps discovering.
That is what this piece offers a collector: an image you can lose yourself in, differently, each time you look. Not because it changes, but because you do.
PAPER & INKS
310gsm 100% cotton rag, the substrate used in museum-grade printing. Archivally stable for 100+ years. Carries colour with a warmth and depth that coated papers cannot match.
Printed with Epson UltraChrome Pro inks chosen for colour gamut and longevity. Will not fade in your lifetime under normal display conditions.
FRAME
Hand-assembled from sustainably sourced Victorian Ash. Shadowbox profile with a small depth between the print and the UV-filtering acrylic gives the image room to breathe. Dry-mounted to archival foam board. Available in natural, white, or black finish.
EDITION & CERTIFICATE
Each piece in this collection is offered as a limited edition at this scale. The scale at which the work does what it's intended to do.
Each limited edition exists in 10 prints worldwide. This is a true edition, not ten per size or ten per format. Ten total. When it closes, it closes permanently. Every piece ships with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and an edition record noting the specific number of your print.
SHIPPING & CARE
Framed pieces shipped within Australia are carefully wrapped for protection. Unframed prints are gently rolled and shipped in a rigid tube, the recommended option for international orders.
